His Legacy Is Astounding, But No One Knows His Name

Big Bird is one of the most famous characters on the planet, yet few people know about the man inside the big yellow suit. Until now.

Caroll Spinney has been teaching children their ABCs as Sesame Street‘s Big Bird for nearly 50 years. He’s now 81, and loves his job just as much today as he did in 1970. In a recent interview with NPR, Caroll explained that he sees “no reason to quit.”

A new documentary, I Am Big Bird, tells the story of Caroll Spinney. It’s available now on iTunes and will be playing in select theaters in May, 2015.

I Am Big Bird features extraordinary footage of Spinney’s earliest Sesame Street days, and traces his journey from bullied child to worldwide icon. Check out the trailer below, and keep an eye out in theaters!
