The United Nations initiated the Millennium Development Project in 2002 to reverse eight of the world’s most profound problems — including hunger, poverty, and illiteracy — by 2015.

The UN recently launched a new campaign called the Emergency Coalition for Global Education Action, in conjunction with the Millennium Project, that hopes to inspire action among domestic governments and private organizations to end educational barriers.
