The Return of Reading Rainbow

“Reading Rainbow” is the award-winning PBS television series that ran from 1983 until 2009, all the while encouraging children to read with segments that included animated books read by celebrities, tours of extraordinary places, and children reviewing their favorite books.

Although the show was taken off the air in 2009, the show’s host LaVar Burton believes it is time for a revival.

That’s why Burton took to Kickstarter, an online medium designed to fund independent creative projects with public donations, to raise the money needed to bring “Reading Rainbow” back in a new form.

Find out more in the campaign’s video.

Thanks to support from almost 23,000 donors, the Bring Reading Rainbow Back for Every Child, Everywhere campaign raised its goal of $1 million in less than twenty-four hours, and as of now has gone twice as high.
