Women’s Enterprise in Africa: Weaving a Brighter Future

Humanitarian aid often has to straddle a delicate line between tradition, culture, and environment. In Maasai culture, for example, women are often not treated with the same respect and regard as the men. One of the keys to changing this tradition is through economic empowerment.

The African Wildlife Foundation took a unique approach to improving the quality of life for women by linking them to the health and well-being of the national park. This innovative initiative allows the Maasai women more personal freedom while uniting conservation and economic benefits in a mutually beneficial way.
