Changing Lives, One Book at a Time

Begun in 2009 by former Amazon.com executive and avid reader David Risher, Worldreader is an organization working to help children and schools across the world in the hopes that better education will lead to better jobs and better opportunities for the next generation. Worldreader “is on a mission to bring digital books to every child and her family, so that they can improve their lives.”

Worldreader provides e-readers for children in impoverished areas to facilitate their learning to read and use modern technology. Worldreader hopes to encourage children to continue reading over the course of their lives. E-readers are a huge asset for children who cannot afford to buy books and who walk long distances to and from school, making schoolbooks difficult to carry and maintain. Free e-readers can make a family’s financial burden lighter and a child’s physical burden lighter while simultaneously giving a child an avenue toward a brighter future.

Sounds simple, right? Yes, an easy and straightforward approach to ending illiteracy and powerfully impacting literally millions of lives. Mind blown? Yeah, us, too. Watch Doris’s story for a glimpse of Worldreader in action. We’re so proud of what she wants to be when she grows up!
